The Gamelatron Sancuary Suara Sinar (The sound of Light)

Dates:June - Novemeber 2014
Location: 100 - 150 North Water Street, Peekskill, NY
Description: Suara Sinar, which translates to The Sound of Light, is a site specific installation in an empty windowless 5,000 sq ft garage beside the Hudson River right next to the train tracks. Set in almost complete darkness, visitors travel through a tunnel to an observation deck in the middle of the space. Tones of 40 Balinese gamelan instruments trigger 40 tight spotlight scattered in all directions. The piece is a temporary public sanctuary, a liminal space, a safe haven where sound and light melt into the one language.

The installation was produced by Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts and co-presented by the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) as part of The Garden of Sonic Delight exhibition curated by Stephan Moore.
